Description


One of the main objectives of the Licenciatura Undergraduate Degree Course in Applied Statistics is to train professionals who can master various techniques of Statistics. These will have communication skills and team work abilities, allowing their integration into multidisciplinary teams in order to support decision making in large organizations. These may be hospitals and pharmaceutical laboratories, consultants, banks and insurers, media, government entities and municipalities, universities, industry.

The degree has a strong component of modeling and solving problems in diverse areas such as Medicine, Biology, Physics, the Engineering, Economics and Finance. The practical stage, or project, undertaken in the last semester, also gives the degree a strong professionalizing character. Thus the conditions are created for the student to integrate easily into the labour market.

The context in which the new licensees will enter is an increasingly organized and competitive world, so that the new graduates in Applied Statistics will play a key role, since the necessity of solving tasks with scientific foundation is essential to ensure the development of Portugal.

Access to higher education


The syllabus of the course includes training with a strong fundamentals component that makes graduates able to continue their education in a wide range of 2nd Cycle courses, either in Statistics or in Applied Mathematics, or in other scientific areas.

Careers


The Undergraduate Degree Course in Applied Statistics aims to train professionals that can work in large organizations. These may be hospitals and pharmaceutical laboratories, consultants, banks and insurers, media, government entities and municipalities, universities, industry.
