Description
The Undergraduate Degree Course in Biology-Geology, restructured according to Bologna Process gives theoretical, laboratorial and field skills in Biology, Geology and Environmental scientific areas. This three-year training first-cycle course encompasses a set of curricular units of specific and bi-disciplinary formation, seeking to provide a competitive access to job market, in sectors such as Environment, Preservation of Natural Resources and scientific research.
In addition, the course give technical and scientific skills to access second-cycle (Master) courses in areas such as Plant Biology, Animal Biology, Molecular Biology Microbiology, Geological Resources, Geoconservation, Environmental Sciences and in Teaching (High-Scholl teachers).
Access to higher education
The course of Biology-Geology gives access to the second cycle courses (Masters) preferably in the fields of Environment (Ecology, Biological Resource Management, Geological Resources, Geoconservation ...) and in the classical areas of Biology (Plant and Aninal Biology, Molecular and Microbiology) and Geology, (Hydrogeology, Geological, Ore Deposits, Cartography ?.).
The course of Biology-Geology also allows access to the second cycle that enables for teaching the third cycle of primary and secondary education (Masters in Teaching of Biology-Geology).
Careers
Job opportunities for graduates in Biology-Geology (1st cycle) include:
- Technician jobs in parks and nature reserves (conservation of biological resources, geoconservation and environmental protection, ...);
- Environmental technicians and ecotourism technicians;
- Technicians in museus, science centers and other educational spaces (dissemination of Life Sciences);
- Technician jobs in local and central administration, in areas related to planning and environment;
- Technicians in trading companies of science and technology materials;
- Technicians in laboratories of biology and geology areas (eg, laboratory testing for water industries, water treatment plants (WTP's) and wastewater (WWTP's), food industry, Biomonitoring; Geotechnics; Thematic Cartography);
- Laboratory technicians in scientific research institutions.
