Description

The goal of the Undergraduate Degree Course in Optometry and Vision Sciences of the University of Minho consists of preparing qualified Optometrists, either for independent professional activity or by integrating multidisciplinary teams in the area of vision care and other related areas, namely research in Vision Sciences, or for staffing companies that produce or sell optical materials and equipment.
The Licenciatura in Optometry and Vision Sciences was adapted to the Bologna model, for a studies' cycle totaling 180 ECTS credits (three academic years /six semesters) according to an Optometrist profile, defined as: An Optometrist is a professional whose major activities consist of the detection, prevention evaluation and compensation of changes in the visual function.

-Prescribe lenses, low-vision aids (magnifiers, telescopes, etc.), training and/or visual rehabilitation,
-Prescribe and fit contact lenses,
-Integrate multidisciplinary teams in the area of primary vision care,
-Integrate material and equipment manufacturing/marketing companies.
