Description


The cycle of studies leading to the degree of Master of Mathematics Teaching in Basic (3rd Cycle) and Secondary School, created in the implementation of the Bologna process, gives professional qualification for Teaching Mathematics in the 3rd Cycle of Basic Education and Secondary School laid down under the Legal System of Professional Qualification for Teaching in Early Childhood Education and Elementary and Secondary Education (Decree-Law No. 43/2007, of February 22, Decree 1189/2010 of 17 November). This cycle of studies aims at training Mathematics Teachers for the above mentioned level of the educational system to be professionals informed, critical and active, able to: Rebuild their thinking and action throughout life; structure, monitor and evaluate socially relevant i learning n the context of the integral development of individuals and their full inclusion in school and society; incorporate methodologies guided by the principles of reflexivity, self-direction, creativity and innovation, appreciate research, not only as a source of knowledge but primarily as a way of knowing and intervening; developing a conscious action, deliberate and responsible in every context of the professional practice.

This Master Course includes a stage to perform in a professional context, on which a report will be prepared to defend in public examinations.

The master degree allows access to doctoral studies, according to the terms described at DGES/Academic+Recognition/Diploma+Supplement.

Entry requirements


1. Candidates for the Master in Mathematics Teaching in Basic (3rd Cycle ) and Secondary Education must fulfill the two following requirements:

a) Graduate diploma or relevant academic, scientific or professional curriculum demonstrating competence to attend the Programme (Law 43/2007, 22nd February, article 17, nr.1);
b) 120 ECTS in Mathematics from prior academic training (Law 43/2007, 22nd February).

2. Candidates can also apply to the Programme with 75% of the ECTS. Enrolment on Teaching Methodology and Professional Practice courses requires the completion of the missing ECTS.
