Description


The Doctoral Programme in Architecture has two alternative plans:
a) Plan A, with 180 ECTS, which includes two academic semesters starting with compulsory attendance of Course Units (CUs), and monitoring of the thesis tutorial in four semesters following;
b) Plan B, with 180 ECTS, with 6 semesters entirely dedicated to the realization of the thesis, with tutorial guidance of a Teacher of "Architecture School". This plan allows that students holders of master degree, or equivalent, to be recognized by the Scientific Council for start directly the thesis.
The Doctoral Degree in Architecture, Plan A or Plan B, is given in the following areas of expertise:
a) City and Territory;
b) Construction and Technology;
c) Architectural Culture.

Access to higher education


The conclusion of this Doctoral degree allows the realization of research activity at post-doctoral level

The Doctoral Programme in Architecture promotes a training methodology and learning environment appropriate to update and improve the acquisition of new skills in the different expertise areas, essential to the construction of a research autonomous pathway by the students.

Access to this cycle of studies requires an application to the School of Architecture of the University of Minho.

This information does not replace consultation of the Regulation of the study cycle Leading to obtaining the degree of Doctor from the University of Minho and other documents.

Entry requirements


May apply to the Doctoral Program in Architecture:
a) The holder of a Master's degree or legal equivalent;
b) Holders of a degree, with at least 300 credits, holders of an academic and scientific especially relevant that is recognized as attesting the capacity to carry out the PhD by the Scientific Council of "Architecture School," after consulting the Steering Committee;
c) Holders of a school curriculum, scientific or professional recognized as attesting the capacity to carry out the PhD by the Scientific Council, after consulting with the Steering Committee.
2nd. The recognition referred to in subparagraphs b) and c) above has the effect only access to the course of study leading to the PhD degree and does not confer on its holder, the equivalence of the degree of bachelor or master, or recognition.
