The MSc in Mechatronics Engineering deals with interdisciplinary domains of mechanical and electronic engineering. Mechatronics is fundamental to the study and development of the product?s project. Modern products are constituted by mechanisms, electrical or electronic circuits, and therefore a combination of these areas is needed to design, develop and manufacture a successful product.

Mechatronics allows the creation of simpler, more economical, safer and more versatile systems. Examples of mechatronic products are as follows: ABS systems, robots, industrial automation intelligent systems. Typical areas of application for Mechatronics are as follows: automation and robotics, automobile technology, biotechnology, biomechanics, micromechanics and microsystems, sensorics, etc, as other fast development and high added value areas.

Access to higher education

This Master degree provides basic training to carry out a course of 3rd cycle (PhD) in the same scientific area, or other areas

Entry requirements

The following may apply to the Master Course in Mechatronics Engineering:
a) Holders of degrees in Mechatronics Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, in Electronic Engineering, or in similar courses or legal equivalent, or others that guarantee an adequate basic preparation, subject to evaluation by the Course Steering Committee, guaranteeing in particular, adequate knowledge level of candidates in Physics and Mathematics;
b) Holders of a foreign higher academic degree conferred following a first cycle of studies organized in accordance with the principles of Bologna by a State adhering to this process, in the areas and conditions defined in paragraph a);
c) Holders of a foreign higher academic degree that is recognized by the Scientific Council of the School of Engineering of the University of Minho (CCEEUM) as satisfying the objectives of the degree in the areas and conditions defined in paragraph a);
d) Holders of a scholar, scientific or professional curriculum that is recognized by the CCEEUM as attesting the capacity to carry out this cycle of studies, in the areas and conditions defined in paragraph a).
