Description

- Train Engineers with solid knowledge in Physics;
- Train Engineers specializing in Devices, Microsystems and Nanotechnologies or specializing in Information Physics;
- Train professionals with independent learning and continuing professional development skills;
- Develop in students interdisciplinary collaborative skills;
- Develop students' communication skills;
- Train Engineers with high awareness and understanding of professional ethics.

Key learning outcomes

1. Know the new paradigms for modeling materials and structured devices, in extremely small scales, in which the laws of Physics follow new regimes.
2. Design micro and nanofabrication processes for structured materials and devices, adapting engineering rules to obtain properties and performance that go beyond the state of the art.
3. Design, develop and characterize instrumentation systems based on microcontrollers with specifications adapted to the acquisition environment.
4. Use quantum physics as a computing paradigm to raise computing power to unprecedented levels.
5. Develop quantum algorithms in dedicated programming languages.
6. Develop multidisciplinary engineering physics projects exploring the interfaces between scientific areas.

Access to higher education

This course provides the technical-scientific competence to access courses of the 3rd Cycle (Doctorate).

Careers

The Integrated Master in Engineering Physics (MEFis) will benefit from the job offer generated by the micro / nanotechnology cluster deployed in the Braga region. In particular, they will benefit from proximity to the International Iberian nanotechnology Laboratory, which participates in the teaching of MEFis, to which the proposed Course Director belongs; from proximity of the Bosch company and the Bosch project that has been providing internships for University of Minho students, usually followed by longer-term jobs; and from the launch of the QuantaLab initiative, which set a quantum computing research agenda, and its partnership with IBM. MEFis students will generally find career opportunities in any region of the country and the EU where the innovative character of the economy increases employability in highly technological areas such as physical engineering.
