Description
The Degree in Data Science (LCD) aims to offer high-level scientific training that brings together solid knowledge in mathematics and computing associated with a deep understanding of data processing methods, as well as learning architectures and algorithms. This training is complemented with an ethical approach that guarantees an appropriate, fair, sustainable, and ethically responsible use of data. The LCD course receives contributions from scientific areas associated with Informatics, Information Technologies and Systems, Statistics, and Mathematics, with complements in disciplinary areas such as Economics and Management or Social Science. The LCD course emerges as a differentiated offer from the courses that the University of Minho includes in its portfolio and responds to a first-cycle training need in the area of Data Science.
Key learning outcomes
- Allow understanding of foundations of data, data analysis and statistics.
- Allow understanding of the theoretical foundations of machine learning, optimization, and artificial intelligence methods.
- Promote the development of descriptive, predictive, prospective, and decision-making analysis processes.
- Develop processes of discovery/extraction of knowledge from databases and large volumes of data (data mining).
- Leverage tools that enable collaboration with information technology specialists to integrate data science techniques into decision-support systems.
- Understand the legal and security requirements and procedures underlying the use and governance of data.
- Promote the development of large-scale data analysis skills.
- Allow the student to recognize patterns and develop predictive models through statistical and artificial intelligence techniques.
