3rd International Conference techLING’18 - Languages, Linguistics and Technology October 2-3, 2018, Lisbon. Promoted by CEHUM, UAL, University of Bologna and University of Coruña

techLING is an international conference devoted to the synergies between languages/linguistics and technology, which focuses on the impact of technological tools on language processing. This year it will be held in Portugal, at Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa, on October 2-4, 2018.

For the first time, the conference will include the training session techLING+, which will take place on October 4, 2018.
The papers will be published in different journals, depending on the track. Track 1 and track 3 papers will be published in a Digital Humanities journal; track 2 papers will be published in indexed journal Diacrítica, and track 4 papers will be published in indexed journal Psique. This initiative is accredited as a training course by the Scientific-Pedagogical Council for Lifelong Training, with reference number CCPFC/ACC/887220/16 (14 accredited training hours). Teaching groups: 200, 210, 220, 300, 310, 320, 330, 340, 350.

techLING is an international conference devoted to the application of technology to languages. We are looking for contributions that present different technology-based approaches, both academic and non-academic, to the study, use and commercialization of languages. We welcome paper and poster proposals that fall under one or more of the following topics*, which we have grouped into four main tracks:

Track 1: Translation and Interpreting
  • Machine Translation (MT) tools
  • Computer-assisted Translation (CAT) tools
  • Mentoring and e-Mentoring
  • Terminology and Information Management
  • The use of corpora for translation practice and research
  • Remote interpreting
  • Computer-assisted interpreting and in interpreter training
  • Corpus-based interpreting studies
  • Speech recognition technology
Track 2: Language Teaching
  • Digital teaching resources
  • Multimodality
  • Mobile learning
  • Distance learning
  • Languages for specific purposes
  • Flipped classroom
  • MOOCs
  • Digital game-based language learning
Track 3: Natural language processing
  • Computational linguistics
  • Summarization and question answering
  • Dialog processing
  • Natural language processing and creative activity
  • Machine in the loop for creative activities
Track 4: Psycholinguistics
  • Language acquisition and learning
  • Language teaching and disorders
  • Computer-assisted speech therapy and rehabilitation
  • Neurocognition and language
  • Forensic profiles: pathologies and language
* Please note that the lists of subtopics under each main topic are intended as guidelines for submission, and hence are by no means exhaustive.

May 15, 2018: abstract submission (paper and poster presentation)
June 15, 2018: notification of acceptance
June 16 - July 31, 2018: early-bird registration
August 1 - September 30, 2018: late registration

Start-ups

The 3rd International Conference techLING is a platform for the dissemination and promotion of startups related to the fields of languages, linguistics, psycholinguistics and natural language processing.

> How to participate?

The conference program will include a slot dedicated to start-up presentations, with a maximum duration of 10 minutes, which may or may not be accompanied by visual aids (slides, poster or other).
