Legal Department

The Legal Department is directly dependent upon the rector and is headed by its jurist, who is appointed by the rector. They are responsible for the study and handling of matters that due to their nature are submitted by the rector, in the areas of legal advice, administrative proceedings, litigation and disciplinary procedure.

Academic Division

The Academic Division carries out its responsibilities in the areas of academic tests and degrees, and ensures the normal functioning of the technical and administrative features of the Academic Senate by integrating two Secretariats. The Academic Division Secretariat is responsible for the organization and monitoring of the processes related to academic tests and PhD exams among other academic activities which are assigned by superiors. It is also responsible for the organization and control of equivalences, recognition and registry of academic degrees, promotion, legal procedures, the monitoring of processes of public tender and teaching and research staff career progression.
It is responsible for the activities that ensure the normal functioning of the body and its three specialized commissions (Scientific Committee, Pedagogical Committee and Planning Committee), which include the preparation and distribution of all documentation related to meetings, members of the body and disclosure of Senate deliberations and its forwarding to the competent bodies and services. The Academic Senate Secretariat is also responsible for maintaining records of the University's courses and supporting the processes of creation, modification and suppression of undergraduate and post-graduate courses submitted for approval and to ensure its legal proceedings.

Human Resources Department

The Human Resources Department participates in the definition of the University's management policies concerning administration and staff matters and generally co-operates with the rector in the exercise of his functions in the areas mentioned. They also coordinate the actions of the administrative staff responsible for the schools, support offices and cultural courses, in order to ensure the normalisation and uniformity of administrative procedures which promote the coherence and adaptation of the communication between the Human Resources Department and the rest of the services.

Technology and Information Systems Department

The Technology and Information Systems Department (DTSI), is a Specialized Service of the University of Minho, headed by a Director of Services, and comprises of the following divisions:
Application Development Division: This division is responsible for designing, planning and coordinating the development of applications, providing direct support to the Rectorate​ or covering the transversal needs identified in the structure of the University, whose accomplishment is of the responsibility of DTSI.
Systems monitoring and Maintenance Division: This division is responsible for the assurance of the high availability of the applications installed in the University by DTSI, as well as for the constant monitoring and maintenance of the systems and central computer equipment installed in the DataCenter SI.
Resources and Customer Service Division: This division is responsible for providing support to the users of the information systems, the exploration of the institutional electronic mail system and for the management of the institutional protocols of software and hardware.

Finance and Property Department

The Finance and Property Department participates in the definition of the University's management policies concerning finance, budget and property. It generally co-operates with the rector in the exercise of his functions in the areas mentioned. This department also promotes the elaboration of the plan of activities, the budgeting project, and the multiannual financial plans, as well as assuring its assessment by proposing adequate budget alterations.

Project Support Office

The Project Support Office is a Service Unit of the University of Minho and operates as a structure of support to external fundraising for the development of R&D activities and researchers mobility.
This office carries out its work on three main levels: on the disclosure and promotion of the information related to funding opportunities of R&D activities framed in the national, European and international funding mechanisms; technical support by the elaboration and preparation of applications until their approval, and management of the University of Minho's research grant holders.

Teaching Support Office

The adoption of the Bologna model, the increase and diversification of the target public for higher education institutions, the increasing diversity of educational courses, the introduction of new e-learning technologies, as well as the recognition of the relevance of pedagogical activity in teachers' assessments, adds a new relevance to the teaching activity at the University.
The promotion of teachers' pedagogical competency, including the use of technologies for teaching support, is a dimension teaching professionalism in which the University intents to invest and recognise its relevance in the quality of students' learning.
The Teaching Support Office aims to achieve this goal by constituting itself as a unit dedicated to the technological and pedagogical training of higher education teachers in, different areas of knowledge, and to the proficient use of the most advanced technological resources of support and mediation of teaching.

Audit and Control Office

The Audit and Control Office has the duty of helping to improve the management process through the support given to the management bodies of the university in the fields of property and financial management and of the internal audit by integrating two nuclei: the financial and Administrative Planning Sector and the Administrative and Financial Audit Sector.

Communication, Information and Image Office

The Communication, Information and Image Office carry out their tasks in the areas of communication and information, and disseminate the image of the University. It is the office's responsibility to cooperate with the Rectorate in the definition of policies and in the communication and imaging strategies. They also guarantee contact with the Media, and follow-up, collect and take care of news information which is of interest to the institution. They must ensure the design of informative and promotional materials, such as initiatives and project organisation that highlight and disseminate the institution. They also promote the assessment and balance of activities carried out within the responsibilities of the Office, by collecting, processing and analysing relevant data.

Office for Inclusion

The Office for Inclusion (GPI) has the mission of promoting the inclusion, in the academic environment, of students, teachers and other employees with disabilities or special needs by providing them with support and promoting equal opportunities. Its work seeks an accessible University which is inclusive and rich in diversity.
Among its main responsibilities are: to attend to and assess the needs of its target public providing appropriate solutions for each situation; provide access to study materials and technologies adapted to specific needs; promote initiatives that contribute to familiarise the academic community with the reality of its target public; and to cooperate in studies and projects focused on inclusion and offer new products and services.
Some of the support measures for students with disabilities are on the Special Attendance Regime of Students with Physical or Sensory Disabilities. However, many other measures are implemented in an attempt to answer emerging needs.

Academic Services

The Academic Services of the University of Minho is a unit of services whose main objective is the administrative management of the students' files, whilst assuring a front-office service for students, teachers and the general public.
According to the Service Units Organic Regulation of the University of Minho, the Academic Services consists of several divisions and sectors assigned with differentiated tasks, namely: the Initial Training Division, the Division of Graduate Studies, the Educational Division, the Front-Office and Quality Division and the Secretariat of Services.

In addition to front-office, telephone and e-mail services, students and prospective candidates can access a range of information and services made available by the Academic Services via the Academic Portal (https://alunos.uminho.pt)

The Rector's Support Services are responsible for guaranteeing the normal technical and administrative functioning of the Rector's Office. It is headed by a Director of Services, operates under the Rector and consists of the Rector's Office and the Secretariat of the Rectorate.

Communication Services

The Communication Services (SCOM) is the unit responsible for maintaining the functioning of the infrastructure of data and voice communication, and the associated services in the University of Minho. Thus, the main objective is to ensure the operability, availability, suitability and safety of the communication services and resources that are provided to the whole academic community of the University of Minho.

Documentation Services

The Documentation Services (SDUM) are a significant support structure to the activities carried out at the University of Minho. Its fundamental task is to provide the necessary bibliographical and informative resources required for research, teaching, continuous training and cultural extension.
The Documentation Services ensure the management of the main UMinho's libraries, both in Braga and in Guimarães, and operate in order to promote and facilitate users' access to the most diverse sources of information. Through the bibliographic catalogue it is possible to search all the existing documental archives in the libraries and in the areaDigital Library and get access to the bibliographic resources in a digital format.
The Documentation Services are also responsible for collecting, preserving, disseminating and valuing the University's scientific production through RepositoriUM the institutional repository of the University of Minho.

International Relations Services

The International Relations Services (SRI) are assigned with the mission of supporting the design, implementation, promotion and coordination of the teaching internationalisation strategies at the University of Minho (UMinho). Therefore, it is a structure of coordination, monitoring and operational support to the development of all the teaching internationalisation initiatives, particularly within the scope of transnational cooperation and academic mobility.
Are located on Gualtar and on Azurém campuses and work in articulation, complementarity and institutional coherence. They also rend services to the academic community of the University of Minho.

Quality Assurance Services

Quality Assurance Services (SGAQ) are a structure of coordination, monitoring and operational support to the development of internal and external assessment, and promotion of quality in the University projects of teaching, research and social interaction. Their main responsibilities are the coordination and implementation of the Internal System of Quality Assurance at the University of Minho (UM-SIGAQ), reviewing and updating the system’s mechanisms and procedures as well as the elaboration of periodic reports. They achieve this by reviewing and updating the system's mechanisms and procedures as well as the elaboration of periodic reports.
In addition, they also manage the Observatory of Educational Provision, through the consolidation of the Alumni portal whose main goals are: the characterisation of the students' academic path and the professional trajectory of undergraduates; the analysis of employability rates; and the establishment of communication links between the University, potential employers and the alumni.

Technical Services

As an organisational unit of the University of Minho, the Technical Services (ST) are organised in a single functional structure, although geographically operating in both campi of the University (Braga and Guimarães). Their work is directly dependent on the Rectorate.
The Technical Services operate within the ar​eas of planning and management of the University's construction projects, as well as in the maintenance, conservation, rehabilitation and requalification of the buildings, equipment and outdoor spaces of the University. The Technical Services are also responsible for the management of the University's teaching spaces, both in case of its regular use and of special events.
