Description

The Undergraduate Degree Course on Computer Science (CS) is a 1st cycle qualification under the new Bologna European recommendation (a degree known as "Licenciatura", in Portugal), requires 6 semesters of full time education and it is being offered at UM since 2006. The CS degree differentiates from other 1st cycle IT degrees at UM due to its rigorous approach to computing, with a solid mathematics foundation. The degree structure aims to provide the students a broad set of computer science competences, including specific knowledge and capacities blended with intellectual, experimental and soft skills. This training prepares the graduates for full realization of their professional expectations, with a critical and responsible attitude towards creative and robust approaches to solve the IT challenges they are faced to, a solid background to adapt to novel environments and the capabilities for self-learning through their life cycle.
The CS graduates are strong candidates to further pursue their academic training anywhere in the world, either to follow a research oriented career, or to deepen their knowledge in narrower or cross-disciplinary fields to apply in the search for innovative solutions for their employers or for their own company. UM offers 2nd cycle training in several Computing fields, towards an MSc degree.
