Tiago Miranda is an Assistant Professor with Habilitation at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Minho and a full member of the Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering (ISISE) and of the Associated Laboratory Advanced Production and Intelligent Systems (ARISE). He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Minho and teaches course units in the disciplinary area of Transportation and Geotechnics, having also served as an Associate Researcher at Newcastle University, UK, between 2018 and 2022.

With 25 years of academic and applied experience, his work focuses on Geotechnical Engineering, Asset Management, and Sustainability in Construction. Throughout his career, Tiago Miranda has carried out applied research in asset management, advanced monitoring and numerical analysis of geotechnical structures, and in the development of eco-efficient materials. He has published more than 230 scientific documents in journals and conferences and has been actively involved in 43 national and European research projects. In the Scopus database, he has an h-index of 31 and 2,750 citations, and demonstrates a high level of internationalisation, with more than half of his journal publications co-authored with researchers from foreign institutions.

Tiago Miranda has been part of a significant number of scientific and technical committees, including his participation in the Asset Management Committee of the International Road Federation (IRF). He has also taken part in numerous organising committees of international and national conferences and advanced courses.

His knowledge transfer activities include the development and registration of two software tools - LEVEL-AMS and LEVEL-SENSING - which are currently used by industry and commercialised by LEVEL, a company he co-founded, operating in the areas of Asset Management and Advanced Monitoring of Geotechnical Structures.

In terms of university management, he was a member of the General Council of the University of Minho between 2022 and 2025, where he coordinated the Specialized Committee on Governance, Institutional Affairs and Financial Affairs. He was also a member of the School of Engineering Council of the University of Minho and served as Executive Director of the Institute for Science and Innovation of the University of Minho (IB-S) for seven years (2014–2020).
