Description
The course aims at training engineers with a thorough knowledge of the properties of several materials, their manufacturing methods and technologies and the ?structure-property-processing? relationships. It intends to associate an adequate theoretical training, namely in the domains of materials physics and chemistry, with a strong technological component. Additionally, the students should acquire adequate knowledge in the area of material selection and several material characterization techniques. The domain of the course corresponds to a very important subject in developed countries, where large research investments are made, and it is also the centre of activity of many high technology industries. For any country, the strategic significance of the training and development of the area of Materials Engineering is of great importance and is also broadly documented. Nowadays, the need for integrated training profiles, avoiding excessive specialization in a specific type of material, is also recognised.
Access to higher education
This course provides the technical and scientific capacity to access the courses of the second cycle (Master)
