The cycle of studies leading to the Master's Degree in Teaching of Portuguese and of Foreign Language (Elementary and Secondary School), created under the implementation of the Bologna process, is realized in one of two areas of specialization: Spanish (gives qualification for teaching for groups 300 e 350); or English (gives qualification for teaching for groups 300 e 330), as possibility provided by the Law of Vocational Qualification System for Teaching in Preschool Education and Elementary and Secondary Education (Decree-Law No. 79/2014, of 14th May and Rectification Declaration n.º 32/2014).
This cycle of studies aims to train teachers of Portuguese and of Spanish or of Portuguese and of English (Elementary and Secondary Education) who are informed, critical and active practitioners able to: reconstruct thinking and action within a lifelong learning perspective; structure, monitor and evaluate linguistic, literary and cultural learnings that are socially relevant and promote people’s full inclusion in school and society; incorporate language methodologies guided by the principles of reflexivity, self-direction, creativity and innovation, giving relevance to research, not only as a source of knowledge but rather as a way of knowing and intervening, and developing a conscious, deliberate and responsible action in the contexts of professional practice.
