Training and events

Training for the Practice of Open Science holds special relevance and is a strong commitment at UMinho, covering various aspects such as open access publishing, self-archiving of publications in repositories, data publication and management, the development of data management plans, and open research software.

UMinho, through its Documentation Services, offers a range of training initiatives for researchers and postgraduate students within the University in different areas of open science. Additionally, it periodically promotes national and international events to disseminate and train on the implementation of open science practices and policies.

Among the various (In)Formative Guides from USDB, you will find some dedicated to open science topics, accompanied by video tutorials, such as:

RepositóriUM Guide: This guide aims to inform about the role of UMinho's Institutional Repository, RepositóriUM, in providing open access to all scientific output produced at the university, including master's dissertations, doctoral theses, journal articles, conference papers, and other scientific texts. It also supports the use and deposit of publications by the entire academic community.

DataRepositóriUM Guide: Here you will find step-by-step instructions on how to use UMinho's Institutional Data Repository to share, publish, and manage research data generated and collected by researchers and research units at the University of Minho

Essentials of Research Data Management: This (In)formative Guide provides relevant resources to understand the essentials of Research Data Management. It aims to make available to the academic community of UMinho a range of resources intended to more clearly support the data management processes, despite the emerging complexity of this topic.

You can also consult a series of Bulletins that address tools from the service or specific topics related to open science.

National or international annual events organized by UMinho in collaboration with other institutional partners:

Recursos de formação online para toda a comunidade:
MOOC "The Essentials of Research Data Management": online course promoted by the General Secretariat of Education and Science with technical development by the Documentation Services of the University of Minho, made available on the NAU Platform. It seeks to give answer to several existing training needs regarding research data management. The "Essentials of GDI" course focuses on the key components for a broad and functional understanding of the processes associated with data management throughout the research lifecycle.
FOSTER Open Science Toolkit: online training resource that provides more than ten courses on the practice of open science, developed within the scope of the European Project, coordinated by the Documentation Service of the University of Minho, "FOSTER Plus - Fostering the practical implementation of Open Science in Horizon 2020 and beyond".
The Open Science training handbook from the FOSTER project is a document dedicated to providing content and pedagogical tools for training in different topics of Open Science. Produced within the scope of the FOSTERplus project, it is a training guide for trainers. It has already been translated into Portuguese Language, and is intended for staff supporting researchers and their activities.

This  Handbook main objective is to support higher education institutions to implement training on FAIR principles in their curricula and teaching, providing practical material, such as training plan models, supporting information, among others. It offers practical information to develop new teaching and training activities that can help the adoption of research data management skills and FAIR data at bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels. It is the result of collaborative work coordinated by the FAIRsFAIR project, which included the participation of 35 authors from 16 countries, experts in different disciplinary areas.
