The course offers reference training in Engineering Physics, providing the bachelor with a solid foundation in physics, mathematics, electrical and computer engineering, which prepares him primarily for any of the branches of the Master in Engineering Physics (Devices, Microsystems and Nanotechnologies, or Physics of Information), but also provides him with knowledge compatible with a wide range of engineering choices, with a minimum of additional training required. The training offered to Bachelors in Engineering Physics allows them, by choosing two optional subjects in the 5th and 6th semester, respectively, to complete their training with an emphasis on physical electronics or information physics.

Key learning outcomes

- To know the theoretical bases of classical physics: Mechanics, Electromagnetism, Thermodynamics and Optics.
- Master the fundamental concepts of quantum mechanics.
- Describe the electronic properties of solids using a mixed approach to classical and quantum physics.
- Acquire fundamental knowledge of analog and digital electronics circuits.
- Know the fundamentals of silicon microtechnologies.
- Know the theoretical bases of computer programming languages.
- Program in common programming languages.
- Program and configure electronic devices for signal acquisition.

Access to higher education

Any 2nd cycle courses in physics or engineering physics and electronic, computer or materials engineering. A Master of Continuity in Physical Engineering, completely suitable for the continuation of studies of LEFis students, will be created.

LEFis will benefit from the job offer generated by the micro / nanotechnology cluster deployed in the Braga region. In particular, they will benefit from proximity to INL, which participates in the teaching of MEFis, to which the proposed Course Director belongs; from proximity of the Bosch company and the Bosch project that has been providing internships for UMinho students, usually followed by longer-term jobs; and from the launch of the QuantaLab initiative, which set a quantum computing research agenda, and its partnership with IBM. LEFis students will generally find career opportunities in any region of the country and the EU where the innovative character of the economy increases employability in highly technological areas such as physical engineering.

Access forms

The access to this Cycle of Studies can be done through the following ways:
