 Student ombudsman

The Student Ombudsman is a recently created body within the University of Minho. Its mission is to promote and defend the interests of students within university life.

​Student Ombudsman: Professor Paula Cristina Martins

She is an assistant professor in the Department of Applied Psychology of the UMinho School of Psychology. She has a degree in Psychology from the University of Porto, and a PhD in Child Studies, in the field of Psychology of Development and Education, from the University of Minho. Between 2006 and 2009, she was the Vice-President of the then Institute of Child Studies, at UMinho. She was also the University of Minho's Pro-Rector for Education.

Scope of Action

The Student Ombudsman's scope of action includes all bodies, services and members of the University, as well as Schools, Institutes and Social Action Services. It is also independent from all these bodies. The Student Ombudsman is ruled by principles of neutrality and confidentiality.

Role

The Student Ombudsman assesses complaints or reports made by the students against acts or omissions of the bodies and services of the University. It acts as a mediator, making suggestions for solutions. The Student Ombudsman writes reports to prevent or repair unfair or irregular situations.
