The School of Architecture of the University of Minho (EAUM) presents the 2nd edition of the Specialized Education in Scenography, by José Capela, with the collaboration of João Cabeleira.
José Capela is one of the most recognized Portuguese set designers. He is cofounder and artistic codirector of mala voadora, with Jorge Andrade, and responsible for the scenography of the shows, and he has worked with multiple Portuguese performing arts institutions (D. Maria II National Theater, São Carlos National Theater, National Ballet Company, among others). He published the set design catalog Ways of Doing Nothing in 2013, he was chairman of the Associação Portuguesa de Cenografia between 2016 and 2018 and he was responsible for the Portuguese official representation at the Prague Quadrienal 2019. He was recently responsible for the design of the permanent exhibition of the Port Wine Museum (1st version on Rua da Reboleira) and the installation Moving the wasteland to the street that occupies the public spaces of the new Bairro Alto Theater, and is currently developing work for the Royal Shakespeare Company in the framework of a project by Tiago Rodrigues. He was nominated for the Prémios Autores for 'best scenographic work' in 2012 and 2017, and was awarded the prize in 2016 for Pirandello by mala voadora.

This course is proposed for professionals and practitioners of the performing arts, namely theatre, but also to everyone interested in the area. It proposes, in a set of post-labour sessions, combining the explanation and discussion of the subject, to construct a general and transdisciplinary view of the evolution of the scenography and the spaces of representation, from the invention of the perspective in the Renaissance to the trends of today's art.
