International Woman's Day
International Women's Day is celebrated every year on the 8th of March. The date recalls the achievements of women who, throughout history, have fought for their rights and against prejudice. In this day, the University of Minho presents two initiatives that, we hope, may contribute to a more inclusive community.

UMinho Commission for Gender Equality

In 2021, the University of Minho established the Commission for Gender Equality and approved its intervention plan. In this plan, UMinho, through its organic units and services, commits itself to promote awareness about gender inequalities in academic environment, as well as to implement measures that contribute to the elimination of any form of gender-based discrimination.
Gender equality remains a challenge for our societies, which is why it features in the United Nations' Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.

The ethical source of the principle of gender equality is the dignity of the person. The promotion of gender equality is a priority for the University of Minho, being expressed in its Statutes (Article 3, point 1)3 and Code of Ethical Conduct (section 2 - Values and Institutional Ethical Principles).
Since the beginning of 2022, the Commission for Gender Equality has a technician whose work aims the development of activities foreseen in the intervention plan. We are referring to Dr Adriana Lago de Carvalho, available through the following contacts: 253601055 and cigum@reitoria.uminho.pt.

Podcast “Um Paço de Conversa”

In order to celebrate the International Women's Day, the University of Minho will make available this Tuesday the first edition of the podcast "Um Paço de Conversa" (“A Palace/Step of Conversation”). It consists of an audio interview format that will privilege the conversation, the sharing and the unveiling of the most personal side of UMinho’s members or external partners, promoting "The art of listening". The preview of this new format happens with Joana Marques Vidal, President of UMinho General Council.

The initiative complements a set of actions carried out from the week of the commemorations of the 48th anniversary of UMinho and which had the theme "The University and the art of listening".

The content, under the responsibility of the Communication and Image Office, will seek, at the same time as it unveils a more personal side of the guest, to create an informal space where perspectives about the University of the future and its role in the surrounding society are discussed. The conversations will be short, rhythmic and adapted to the intensity of daily life.

Besides Joana Marques Vidal, Rui Vieira de Castro, rector of UMinho, Paulo Silva, councilman of Guimarães City Hall, José Pinho, IKEA Portugal and Simão Soares, CEO of SilicoLife, are some of the guests of the first season.

"Um Paço de conversa" will be available on Google, Apple and Spotify platforms.
