Description


The purpose of the Doctoral Program in Textile Engineering is to train a highly skilled new generation of experts and researchers in the field of Textile Science and Technology, able to work independent research, development and innovation in a university or business environment, in order to contribute to the creation of new knowledge that potentiates the interaction between the university and the business world and contribute to the competitiveness and sustainability of the textile and clothing (ITV) national and European industry.

Key learning outcomes


The training profile of the future doctors in Textile Engineering will groom highly qualified professionals:
1. Owners of knowledge, skills and abilities of permanent value in the field of Textile Engineering, capable of adapting effortlessly to the kind of companies and organizations required by the current evolution of societies.
2. Fit to solve challenges and problems in a structured and rigorous manner, and to approach Textile Engineering issues in a multidisciplinary perspective, setting them in the respective technical, scientific, economic, social and environmental contexts.
3. With a proactive stance with respect to change, contextualizing it in terms of economic development and international competitiveness;
4. With the ability to briefly and rationally communicate the results of their work to technical and/or generalist audiences;
5. Denoting leadership and entrepreneurship;
6. Having the ability to teamwork and network, as well as the awareness of citizenship and sustainable behavior.

The conclusion of this Doctoral degree allows the realization of research activity at post-doctoral level.

Entry requirements


Eligible for the Doctoral Program in Textile Engineering are students with a master’s degree in Textile Engineering, or a 5-year undergraduate degree in Textile Engineering prior to the entry in force of post-Bologna degrees. Also eligible are students holding a master’s degree or a 5-year undergraduate degree prior to the entry in force of post-Bologna degrees in related scientific areas, albeit always subject to the scrutiny of the Steering Committee of the doctoral program and according to the rules established by the Internal Regulation of Doctoral Programs of the School of Engineering of the University of Minho.
The final decision on admission rests with the Scientific Council of the School of Engineering, taking into account the opinion of the Steering Committee of the doctoral program.
