Description
The Information Systems and Technologies (IST) doctoral program aims at training students to autonomously undertake research activities in the IST field. Research in IST address organizational and social phenomena related to the adoption and use of information technologies.Research projects within the IST doctoral program typically involve theoretical and technological contributions to the field. Such contributions are relevant to those involved in professional activities associated to the engineering and the management of information systems in organizations, either, business, government or not-for-profit organizations. Other outcomes include novel IT products or platforms that aim at transforming organizational and social practices, interactions and relationships.
The program has a duration of 4 years. The first year includes a set of taught courses that enable students to familiarize with the most important literature in the field as well as with the research approaches and methods. Besides deep understanding in their topic area, students are expected to evidence a general understanding of the field.In this first year students prepare a first version of a plan for their doctoral project. In the remainder 3 years of the program, students carry out this research project. During the program the student will have to present his work in order no enable the assessment of his/her progress.
