The Social Emergency Fund (ESF) is a non-refundable cash benefit, exempt from any taxes, which is intended to cover one-off situations arising from contingencies or socio-economic difficulties, which have a negative impact on the student’s normal academic performance, and which cannot be suitably addressed within the scope of the support provided by the Social Welfare system for Higher Education.
The ESF application can be submitted between October and June of the academic year in which the student is enrolled and for which they are applying for support. The application is made through a request addressed to the Rector of the University of Minho, using the application form, and handed in at the Social Welfare Services, in Braga or Guimarães, with all the supporting documents.
