The Students' Union of the University of Minho (AAUMinho) represents UMinho in university sports and won the University Clubs Trophy 2020/2021. This is an unprecedented title for AAUMinho and was obtained after dominating the Final Phases of the Championships of National Universities (CNU's), held in Covilhã and Fundão, in the Center of Portugal. The event involved a thousand student-athletes and 70 teams from 19 institutions. AAUMinho was the only one represented in all competitions, with aproximately 160 students.
Of the ten titles at stake, AAUMinho won four gold medals (men's and women's handball, men's and women's volleyball), in addition to three silver medals (men's and women's futsal, men's rugby of 7s) and one medal of bronze (men's basketball). Overall, AAUMinho brought eight medals, followed by seven form Aveiro, three from Évora, Técnico and Polytechnic of Coimbra, two from Beira Interior and Faculty of Human Motricity and one from Coimbra and Nova Lisbon.
The Academic Federation of University Sports (FADU) also awarded white cards due to the fair-play of the participants. This ation was in partnership with the Portuguese Institute of Youth and Sport (IPDJ) and within the scope of the National Plan for Ethics in Sport (PNED). Three of these cards were awarded to AAUMinho; one for the handball player Rebeca Freitas, who abdicated her defending position so that an inexperienced opponent could strike the ball; the handball player Paulo Abreu also advised the referee against suspending an opponent of the ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon team. Finally, in rugby of 7s, after the injury and abandonment of an athlete from Évora, AAUMinho choose to abdicate of mantaining one of theirs.
AAUMinho ended the 2020/2021 sporting season with a total of 33 medals in the various competitions: 12 gold, 11 silver and 10 bronze.
