UMinho has 94% of Researchers in Units rated “Excellent” or “Very Good”

The University of Minho has had the quality of its research formally recognised, following the announcement of the provisional results of the national R&D Units assessment by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). Of the 31 units from UMinho’s Schools and Institutes, 84% have now been rated as “Excellent” (13 units) or “Very Good” (13 units); these units are home to 94% of the University’s researchers.
The assessment evaluated the scientific and technological activities carried out by the research centres between 2018 and 2023, and also considered their goals, strategies, activity plans, and organisational structure from 2025 to 2029. At a national level, a total of 336 R&D units across various fields of knowledge were assessed by 315 international reviewers.
“These results are overall highly positive for UMinho, thus confirming the impact of the work undertaken by our academic staff and researchers,” said the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, Sandra Paiva.
