Grounded on an integrated, cross-cutting and impact-oriented approach, the Strategy is built on a fundamental premise: internationalisation is a core dimension of the mission of UMinho, reflected in education, research, innovation, engagement with society, and institutional governance.
The Strategy is structured around three priority pillars, complemented by a transversal pillar focusing on the internal sustainability:
Europe as the strategic core, strengthening the European identity of UMinho through the consolidation of the Erasmus+ Programme and the deepening of its participation in the Arqus European University Alliance;
Excellence partnerships and global positioning, fostering selective and strategic cooperation with international reference institutions;
Global South and CPLP: cooperation with mentorship, prioritising collaborative frameworks based on institutional capacity-building and knowledge sharing;
Internal sustainability of internationalisation, strengthening the offer of study programmes in English, promoting academic mobility, and embedding the international dimension across institutional processes and governance instruments.
In this context, the Arqus European University Alliance plays a structural role as an instrument for institutional transformation, fostering pedagogical innovation, the development of new mobility frameworks, the creation of joint degrees, and enhancing the participation of UMinho in European education, research and innovation projects.
The Strategy is also supported by an integrated governance model based on shared responsibility, involving the Rectorate, Organic Units and Service Units in the definition, implementation, and monitoring of the Strategy of Internationalisation.
The Strategy of Internationalisation 2025-2029 is now available to the academic community.
