Being a pioneer in the field of Open Access, UMinho has gained significant visibility and recognition in this area, establishing a strong network of relationships and partnerships at the national and international levels, particularly in Europe and the Lusophone world.
In 2009, UMinho was a founding member of
COAR - Confederation of Open Access Repositories.
In the following years, in 2018, it was also a founding member of the European organization OpenAIRE A.M.K.E..
Through the
Unidade de Serviços de Documentação e Bibliotecas (USDB) e do seu
Gabinete de Gestão de Informação Científica, Repositórios e Ciência Aberta (GGICRCA),
UMinho was responsible for the development, installation, and operationalization of the RCAAP portal and, since then, has been responsible for the scientific and technical components of the RCAAP project - Open Access Scientific Repositories of Portugal, developed and funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).
Since 2007, UMinho has been participating in, and in some cases leading, various European projects related to Open Access, Open Science, and research data.
