Guilherme A B Pereira was born in Porto in 1961. He is Associate Professor at the Industrial Engineering Department for the School of Engineering of the University of Minho since 2008.
He completed the Degree in Industrial Engineering and Management in the University of Minho in 1984. He completed both his MSc on Operational Research in 1989 and his PhD in Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering in 2000, in the University of Birmingham, UK.
He began his career at the University of Minho in September 1984, as Junior Lecturer in the Production and Systems Department of the School of Engineering – where he had started as Teaching Assistant since 1983.
In the academic field he had been lecturing Courses in the fields of Operational Research and Discrete Event Simulation.
His research activities are developed under the Industrial Engineering and Management Research Line of the ALGORITMI Research Centre, within the Supply-chain, Logistics and Transportation Systems (SLOTS) Research Group. Always privileging research and development for industrial applications, he has been participating in several R&D projects supported by Portuguese Institutions (including industrial partners) and under European funding programmes. He has supervised with success 5 PhD students. He has co-authored or authored more than 80 ISI/Scopus indexed papers, mostly in the area of Discrete Event Simulation and Operations Research.
He served the Portuguese Navy from 1985 and 1987 as Officer in the Navy Operational Research Centre.
He was co-founder of a Spin-Off of the University of Minho in 2016.
He is Vice-President of the Portuguese/Brasilian Association for Simulation.
He was Director of the Industrial Engineering and Management Degree from 2000 to 2010. During this period he coordinated the External Evaluation of the Industrial Engineering and Management Degree by the Portuguese Universities Foundation, the accreditation process of the Industrial Engineering and Management Degree by the Portuguese Board of Engineers and the Bologna process for the Integrated Masters for Industrial Engineering and Management.
From 2000 and 2010 he had also been Vice-President of the Degree Council of the School of Engineering.
He was Vice-Director of the ALGORITMI Research Centre between 2010 and 2013.
In 2010 and 2013 he was elected member of the Scientific Council of the School of Engineering where he served until 2016.
He has been Vice-Dean of the School of Engineering of the University of Minho from 2013 to 2016.
He was Pro-Rector for Institutional Assessment between 2016 and 2017.
He has been Pro-Rector for Institutional Assessment and Special Projects since 2017.
