Born in Coimbra, in 1969, she is currently an associate professor at the School of Law at the University of Minho.

Graduated in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra, she completed her master degree, in 2000, and her PhD, in 2009, already at the University of Minho.

She joined the University of Minho as a trainee assistant in 1996, performing teaching duties in the General Legal Sciences section of the then called Autonomous Department of Law. In 2017 she rose to the rank of Associate Professor at the School of Law, assigned to its Department of General Legal Sciences.

Her teaching activities are focused in the areas of Legal Methodology, Legal History and Philosophy of Law, and she teaches in the Law degree and Criminology degree courses, in the master degrees programs in Judicial Law and in Law and Informatics, and in the doctoral degree in Legal Sciences. She is also part of the faculty staff who teach the masters in Legal Sciences at Jean Piaget University, in Angola. Her research work has been developed mainly in those same areas, with particular focus on the domains of legal language and legal hermeneutics and in the field of the relations between Law and Literature. Her most relevant publications include A prática judiciária entre Direito e Literatura, Para uma teoria hermenêutica da justiça: repercussões jusliterárias no eixo problemático das fontes e da interpretação jurídicas, História do Direito (in co-authorship), “Direito, Literatura e Género: o «feminismo por irritação» de Saramago em «Um quarto só para si» de Virginia Woolf”, or “Direito, método e ideologia: lições da História do Direito nacional-socialista”.

Between 2010 and 2016, she was the Director of the General Legal Sciences Department, having been re-elected to the position in 2021. She is an elected member of the School Council and the Scientific Council of the School of Law. She has been the director of the Scientia Ivridica Comparative Law Review since 2017. Integrated member of the Research Center for Justice and Governance, at the University of Minho Law School, she is also a member of the North American Association for the Study of Law, Culture and the Humanities and of the Brazilian Law and Literature Network.
Fostering relations with the community, in 2020 she joined the JusGov Research Center working group which, in partnership with the National Cybersecurity Centre, prepared and published the Ethics & Law Report.
